Over the next few days there may be a lull in posts as I am currently without power. I managed to sneak over to the library in the town I used to live in to post this. Luckily I never cancelled my library card :).
The power went out here on Long Island, NY over 24 hours ago and unfortunately it looks like it won’t be going back on for awhile (maybe even 10 days). LIPA, our power company, has been working diligently to turn the power back on but there is only so much you can do to turn power back on for over 500,000 customers. You can see the current outage map here, they’ve managed to make some progress. Other than this our house was not damaged.
A disease such as CD can make us often feel powerless; it’s not the worst but it’s something to worry about. It’s important to remember that we are not powerless and we have all the strength we need if we can focus it.
A loss of something we commonly live with, like electricity, can leave us feeling worse. Even without electricity though we celiacs are not powerless to keep ourselves entertained, safe and fed, just like everyone else. Take a book outside and use the advantage of the sun, chat by candle light with a loved one, eat something raw and fresh and use this time to appreciate more fully the modern amenities we often overlook.

Hey Georgia Lynn, I have had much pain due to the low pressure from before, during and after the storm. I haven’t been strict with my diet. Must begin to get rid of the glutenous toxins again. It helps to know you are there! Thank you, Mindy
