Product Review: RP’S Pasta Company Gluten Free Fettuccine

On Tuesday’s I volunteer at a local food share that collects food from local farms during growing season, in addition to ‘expired’ or ‘damaged’ good from stores such as Trader Joe’s, Wild by Natures, and Whole Foods. All food is vegetarian and organic. It gives me great happiness to give back to others weekly, even when I am freezing my but off in below freezing temperatures. Just seeing those smiles and hearing their kind words of thanks fills my social work heart.
It makes me extra happy too when we find an interesting gluten free find in the stacks of goods. See, everyone who volunteers (and even some of the people who come for food) know of my dietary needs and will put aside special things for me to try. RP’s Pasta Company’s Gluten Free Fettuccine was one of those finds. Carried in Whole Foods, PR’s Pasta Company says the following about their gluten free products:

RP’s founder Peter Robertson developed this award-winning fresh gluten-free pasta recipe which utilizes brown rice flour as the primary ingredient.   Our certified fresh gluten-free pasta has the same al’dente texture as our traditional pasta. Nobody can believe it’s gluten-free!

This is a very accurate statement, you really would have a hard time telling this was gluten free. It cooks up quick, less than 5 minutes, and is thick and tasty. You certainly won’t have a problem with this pasta falling apart, or turning into mush, and it is really like nothing else I’ve tried in the gluten free pasta realm. It’s quite filling too, so a smaller portion goes a longer way than other gluten free pastas. Because it’s on the heavier side it’s perfect to mix with some oil and pesto sauce for a lighter dish, throwing some grilled vegetables in won’t hurt either. The only down side is I don’t know how much it is! I’ll have to hunt it down in the future to see if it’s worth the price.
