As a kid, I had three staple breakfast meals that I often had:
- Cheerios and Milk
- Ego Waffles with syrup
- Strawberry Pop Tarts
Looking back, I was probably killing myself slowly BUT I just loved breakfast. Specifically, I LOVED the pop tarts. Strawberry is one of my favorite things, in any form really, and those sweet little treats with icing were just the perfect treat to start my day. Needless to say, I didn’t eat them much as an adult but they were one of the first things I thought of when going gluten free (mostly because my roommate ate them).
Well, in May Udi’s sent me a box of goodies for sharing my diagnosis story and in that box was a little treat from their partners Glutino: Strawberry Toaster Pastries. I was THRILLED because for some reason this was something I don’t recall seeing in stores. There are 5 in a box, and these babies are just perfectly delicious! Although on the dry side, mostly because the iconic pop tart icing is missing, they are full of flavor and nutritious. Honestly, as a grown up I prefer them this way because they are more wholesome. They are less sweet and a bit dry because all the processed nonsense seen in my childhood pop tarts has been removed. I topped mine with strawberries for a healthy breakfast, and personally am happy about this delicious adulthood upgrade.
