This weekend was full of festivals, two wonderful food themed festivals to be exact. Yesterday the hubby and I attended the local Pickle Festival complete with antiques, music, kid games, and of course pickle themed foods. We caught it early in the morning right before it rained:
Then today, we headed out east with a few of our friends to visit the Garlic Festival at one of our favorite organic farms Garden of Eve. Although we hit it late, and missed the garlic eating contest it was a great time as usual (it was our second year going) and it was a perfect way to ring in the autumn season under the mostly blue sky.
After heading home, I was ready to kick of the season off right: with a Woodchuck Pumpkin Cider, the windows wide open to let in the crisp air, and some soup making! I came across a recipe for Creamy Roasted Tomato Soup from Brittany over at Real Sustenance earlier in the week on Pinterest, and it was a perfect way to welcome the new season. I grabbed my husband’s hand picked tomatoes from his organic farm and the rest of the ingredients and got to work making this bad boy:
I paired it with some garlic bread grilled cheese, and overall it was super delicious! Creamy and full of flavor, it hit the spot. The only thing I may have omitted was the sugar, as it ended up a bit sweet. Otherwise, it was delightful and very easy to make. I definitely recommend this recipe!
So, this weekend was really just a great way to start the season. It is a season full of delicious food after all!
HAPPY AUTUMN!
