Last Friday night was the third installment of the Potluck Dinner Club, and the theme was Greek fair. People found this one a bit trickier than Japanese and Southern, but the end result was as one friend put it “a little put of culinary utopia”. See, it gets tricky because we have gluten free, dairy free, peanut free, vegetarian, pescatarian, and normal party goers. With Greek, things are almost entirely meat or seafood based but I think we pulled off a good balance. With the exception of the beer and the pita bread, the entire layout was gluten free! Here’s a few photos:
From front right to back: Greek Salad, Dolmas, Homemade hummus, yogurt sauce mini Pitas, Spanikopita Bites, Baked Shrimp with tomatoes and feta, Baked lamb with rice and yogurt sauce, and greek bean and tomato soup.
Close up of the heated food: Spanikopita bites (front), Baked shrimp with tomato and feta (center), and Lamb with rice and yogurt sauce.
I made the Spanikopita bites, which were based off this recipe from Simply Gluten Free. The only change I made was use Chebe’s all purpose bread mix rather than the focaccia mix. They were a bit flufflier, but still a huge hit. People didn’t believe they were even gluten free!
The hubby and I were given our own dedicated gluten free hummus, with a special sign so that no one dunked a pita in it! We have some dedicate friends!
So, my plate was full and my belly was full by the end of the night. All in all, a huge success!
