Grandsons Celiac Disease Motivates Woman to Write Children’s Book
My classes carry a theme through out them, that of looking at the strengths and positive motivators that come out of negative life experiences. While CD is not deadly per-say, it definitely can be a negative experience given the stigmatization and separation from ‘normalcy’ that can occur, not only for us but also for our loved ones. That’s why it’s important to touch on stories such as this, where a woman was inspired by her grandson’s pain and distress to create a book that would easily tell children what they are dealing with when they have CD. Celiac Disease in the book is personified by Cecil Celiac, a bug that lives in the child’s gut. What a great idea! You can look at their website here for more information!

However, fertility rates are lower for CD individuals 2 years prior to their diagnosis, suggesting that being undiagnosed could lead to fertility issues in the long run.
