Food Sensitivities Can Make You Fat? (and several food sensitive celebs)
This article discusses the idea that food sensitivities make you fat because they spark your cortisol and insulin, making you store more fat. It then goes on to discuss several ‘food sensitive’ celebrities and why they’ve chose that diet. To me this is a controversial article which seems a bit set more in the health craze mentality than the healthy mentality. Some of the mentioned actors seem to be omitting food for sensitivities, while others seem to be doing it for other health reasons not related to sensitivities. I find it frustrating that these two groups are often lumped together. What are your thoughts?
A one stop digestive ‘shop’: Israel opens first Digestive Disease Institute
This article describes the recent efforts in Israel to make progress in the GI arena by opening a new Digestive Disease Institute, as well as goes on to discuss several digestive disorders. What struck me most about this article, was the cultural underpinnings. All to often, in the Social Work or Medical field, we forget our taught cultural competency and neglect to understand the influence of a patient’s culture on their help seeking behaviour. For instance, this article discusses how many patients come to the clinic with family planning and pregnancy concerns, rather than difficulty with their symptoms. It is up to the professionals to honor their needs and work with them in a way that works with their culture so I think this clinic is off to a great start doing great work!
And on a not so Gluten-Free, although Nutrition related note:

This will have a BIG influence on everything from corn costs to meat coasts to fuel costs. Being gluten free, and not corn-free, corn is a staple in my diet so this is big news! You can find another article with more farmer input here.
