Head trauma linked to slight increase in celiac disease risk
This large scale study looked at almost 30,000 subjects with Celiac Disease, and compared them to over 100,000 controls to determine if early head trauma had anything to do with a CD diagnosis later in life. They found a slight increase in the likihood of being diagnosed if you had experiences earlier head trauma, perhaps suggesting an autoimmune response to head injury. As someone who experiences one severe concussion as a child, I find this interesting research!

Is Celiac Disease Worse in People with Anemia?
Anemia has always been viewed to be an atypical symptom of CD, and this study looked at how CD symptoms varied in those who had Anemia and those who did not from a subject set from New York. The study found that individuals with CD and anemia experienced lower bone mass density and worse villa atrophy (damage to the small intestines). Read on for further details.

This Gluten-Free Thing Is a Really Overblown Fad!
This is a fantastic counter article to the many people, news companies, authors, and others who view gluten free as a simple fad. I know I have shared many articles that give this perspective, and reminds readers that there is something behind the ‘fad’ but this article explains it all in such a well developed, critical perspective and includes research as to the benefits of a gluten free diet and the facts behind those who need to follow the diet just to new a few things. The article is not without skepticism and negativity to an extent though, so be warned.

Everyday Struggles of Living Gluten Free
Buzzfeed seems to be on a gluten free kick lately, and continues this with this gluten free post published this week. It’s a good insight into the life of someone who is gluten free. I particularly agree with #2 (social anxiety in new restaurants), #5 (bringing your own drinks to parties), and #11 (a love of potatoes) but they’re all pretty accurate with the exception of #15 (inevitable cheating). I have never intentionally cheated since going gluten free, and I think for many (at least with celiac disease) it’s not even an option in there eyes.
