If there is one thing I can appreciate as a Celiac, and a social worker, it is anything in life that helps you organize and clarify. For example, I have a particular love of weekly meal planners (or any list organizing documents) or stickers that label your food as gluten free at potlucks. Things like this make your life (and diet) SO much easier for all parties involves, which is why I was intrigued to hear from the folks at Safe and Happy Family who wanted to share their line of food allergen friendly products with me and my readers. You probably saw them listed on my 2015 gift guide, and now you have the opportunity to win one of their products!
Safe and Happy Families is a company run by husband and wife duo Holly and Chris, who are parents of a son with severe food allergies. Here’s what they have to say about the company:
We created Safe & Happy Family™ as a way to share products that we were looking for and couldn’t find. Products to make the lives of food-allergic families easier and a little more fun. We also wanted a way to regularly fund food allergy research and education, which we do by donating a portion of our profits to the non-profit FARE (Food Allergy Resource & Education)…These products come straight from our hearts and we hope that you find them as fun and functional as we do.
Their line of awesome products make your needs visible and clear for EVERYONE. One one end they sell products that make serving and identify allergen friendly foods easier, and ease the risk of cross contamination, including cutting boards, serving platters, lunch pack tags, utensils and more labeled as ‘food allergen food only’. On the other end they offer food diaries and binders to organize your thoughts and reactions to food and centralize where to keep your medical documents, recipes, and other related resources.
I especially love their kits and care packages, which combine several of their items in bundles for individuals across the lifespan, and diagnostic path. For instance, their Recently Diagnosed Care Package ($64) includes a food diary, Allergen Safe Foods only labeled wood cutting board, and Allergen-Safe snacks labeled platter and is a great value for all that is included. It would be the perfect gift for anyone living/eating in a potential shared kitchen space and/or seeking to look at their diet more closely. Sound interesting? Well, If you enter the giveaway below by December 18th you could be the winner of this package!
A girl I work with was recently told she should go gluten free by her doctor. She shares a kitchen with others, so it would be great for her to have safe spaces to prep!
If I won, I would have to find someone that is recently diagnosed. I belong to a Celiac Support group offline, so I would check with them for someone that could have this gift. I’ve been gluten free 8-9 years now.
I have recently been re-diagnosed with serious colitis inflammation, so I would use the journal for myself. I would give the cutting board and platter to my sister, though, because she was recently diagnosed with nut allergies and would really benefit from these!
Love the idea of sharing!
For my 2 children who inherited celiac from me. My Mom has it, my sister, and my Mom’s sister also have it.
I would like to give this a new friend I made that is really struggling with her celiac and has a shared kitchen in her home. Her kids and husband are not careful about cross contamination issues and it is affecting her health.
Love to get this for my son who is showing signs of Celiac. Haven’t been officially tested yet but soon!
