Happy National Celiac Awareness Day everyone!
National Celiac Disease Awareness day was introduced as a day to bring attention to this common, although underdiagnosed and misunderstood disease. It takes place today, September 13th, because this is Dr. Gee’s birthday. Dr. Gee is recognized at being the first to link Celiac Disease with Diet. On this day Celiac’s, their friend’s and families, and organizations and professionals in the field nationally step up and spread awareness about the condition in fun, creative, and informative ways. For example, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness is hosting a Gluten Free dinner and fundraiser with Chef Jehangir Mehta, who was a finalist in Season 2 of the Food Network’s “Next Iron Chef”. With all these great events, you can find many ways to get involved in the day.
BUT there is a lot you can do individually to spread your own awareness!

I spread awareness by educating my family about gluten free cooking.

I work at a Community Health Center which allows me to talk with patients that have symptoms of Celiac or that have been newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I love being able to tell them what foods are my favorite and where to find them in our grocery store. It is very overwhelming at first when diagnosed and it helps to have someone to relate too!
A brand new gluten-free bakery opened in my town, so I buy their delicious products and give them to my friends and relatives, some do have Celiac, but ALL appreciate receiving them.!!
Hello, please provide an email address if you are interested in winning! Thanks!
this has been ‘liked’ on FB for me, and reposted on the book face. 🙂
I spread the awareness by posting as much as I can on my FB page, Private Pure Pilates as well as with my students and clients when they come to me with diet issues. I have politely explained Celiac to many wait staff as well as General Managers for various restaurants and have provided examples for restaurants on how they can have a GF menu and space in their kitchen. I inspire and educate my son and friends on eating Gluten Free and how it can help ADHD, Autism and Aspergers which my son has. He is 10 and notices a real difference when he eats GF vs when he doesn’t. I like your FB page and look forward to sharing your blog on my FB page to raise the awareness~ Thank you for this opportunity! ~Paulette
