  1. I talked with a girl in my nursing class at school who was tested for Celiac last week. We talked about it for awhile and I told her if she had any questions to feel free to ask. It will be one year gluten free for me on Sept. 22nd.

  2. I had a very good conversation with my aunts and uncles that live near me. They thought that I was being very rude for not eating their food at parties and such. I explained to them how harmful it is and could be very dangerous if there is even a bit of contamination. I am honestly not sure how much they were willing to understand but at least now they now its a real “thing” not a hip thing I want to do but something that you really need to watch out for.

  3. Its not only people like us who suffer from celiac diseases. There are countless homeless people who lost their health insurance over time and suffer from celiac disease and have to scavenge on foods they get. I see 2-3 out of 10 people every week when I take care of them every week as a volunteer for a mission in my town. Winning this would help me support them in a small way.

    1. You are so true! I work on tuesdays at a food share that gives out food from local stores (trader joe’s, whole foods, local farms etc.). There is SUCH a need for it, and there are many people who come exclusively for the gluten free products.

  4. I baked my first loaf of gluten free bread! As a 30 years plus cake baker and decorator, I was very comfortable in my kitchen until I went gluten free recently. Baking gluten free is SO different from baking with gluten! I was very intimidated with gf baking for quite a while. I have been very blessed by the many wonderful gluten free bloggers available on line who share such amazing knowledge, and I hope that someday my gluten free baking will be on a par with my standard fare.

  5. Oops! Please delete the double entry on my post, (post immediately previous to this one) I did not understand that the reason that I was not seeing it on my page was because it had to await your approval before being posted. So sorry! Thank you! Robin Burgess

  6. I volunteer with a local nonprofit, and we run a booth at our community farmers market. Part of our mission is to help people adopt a more healthy lifestyle, including exercise and diet. Every time I’m there I talk about my diet, and why I have to eat gluten free. It’s been very incredible to show people how much what you put into your body can affect your health and your mood. I try to be a good example of a healthy lifestyle so others will want to take care of themselves!

  7. I shared on google+ and Facebook. I would love these I have been gluten free for 3 years and I am slowly switching my entire family gluten free. I help friends with this too I have several friends who are gluten free and so are their kids. great site btw

  8. I spent the weekend visiting my in laws in Rhode Island, where I had the opportunity to educate them about Celiac Disease and my dietary needs, as well as find a few new restaurants in the area. One of them was a bakery, and I practically purchased everything in the place!

  9. There’s a few things I’ve been doing. I’ve been learning to bake more of my own stuff. I’ve gotten my entire family to go gluten free. My mother is doing her own version as well. She doesn’t pay attention to the details in sauces so much, but she hasn’t been eating any breads or cookies, cakes etc. Even my dad is giving it a try for health reasons. I’m a health coach and work with people to help them with their health goals. I’m working with a few people who are gluten free and I helped some to get there. Experimenting with recipes. And going to try and start attending a somewhat local celiac support group that I used to attend a few years back. As well as a new one for kids that’s started up in my area.
